Spirit
Spirit is an ethereal portrait exploring psychological presence, natural architecture and surreal portraiture.
 
The figure is presented in quiet profile, her form emerging against a deep black background that heightens visual contrast and spatial depth. Above her head, a sculptural arrangement of driftwood, shell and organic botanical forms creates a dreamlike crown structure, merging natural materials with figurative form.
 
The driftwood introduces weathered organic texture, referencing natural structures shaped by time and environmental movement. The shell element introduces luminous tonal contrast, drawing visual focus upward through the composition.
 
Executed in Albrecht Dürer coloured pencils on 300gsm university-grade mixed media paper, the work demonstrates refined surface detail and controlled tonal layering. The use of fine coloured pencil allows for subtle chromatic variation while maintaining atmospheric restraint.
