“The Wishing Tree, often called the Tree of Life due to its ever-reaching branches, is a concept I’ve been interested in for many years. This large oil painting aimed to capture a contemplative mood. The tree has a dual representation of youth and age symbolised by the growth of the roots and the two youthful faces in the underground world. Age is represented with the tree's pathway of the branches above the ground drawing lines in the air of experiences.
The light shining through the branches could be the moon or sunshine, suggesting a transition of consciousness - awake and dreamtime, where all-important matters are simultaneously and eternally present. This painting represents the dualities of which our world is made, a composite of positive and negative, of light and dark, of freedom and restraint – the union of opposites.
