Is life ruled by fate? Are we pawns to our own genes, prisoners of predestination, or do we have to power to control our own destination? I decided to explore these questions using the 'game of life' as a metaphor. The print "Play the Game" expresses the idea of free will, choice, luck, destiny and the 'gambles' and risks associated with life. These ideas where fashioned into an illustrative picture with fairy tale connotations. The central figure begins the checked path of life captured inside a huge 'bubble', where time is distorted by one's own perceptions. This checked path leads to the horizon and is framed at the entrance by ancient stone pillars and columns.
 
The trees on either side of the path are joined, forming a tunnel, or 'passage of life'. These trees form a natural shelter, or roof, protecting those who walk this path. The invisible barrier of the 'time-bubble' encapsulates the main figure, symbolising protection. This 'bubble' or comfort zone, at times must be broken to enable new growth. 
 
The other capsules (or bubbles) that progressively merge forward to confront the main figure are the obstacles of the future. These represent the notion of predestination. In the present these obstacles are not always obvious or known. The choices and steps that the figure makes will determine the future. Future consequences can be avoided depending on the decisions made in the 'now' (the present). Depending on how the individual plays the 'game of life', one can avert the 'bad' and encourage the 'good', therefore, manipulating fate to one’s advantage.
